Skipjacks are a traditional type of workboat to dredge oysters on the Chesapeake Bay. Many of them had engines, but in recent years, due to scarcity of oysters, they have been required by law to work the oyster beds under sail only. I grew up near the Chesapeake- it's wonderful experience there to visit restaurants at the shore and eat fresh caught seafood! This paintinmg is by Carl G. Evers. |
