Men have always fished for their own sake, as well as to market the catch to others. The old methods and boats, such as these, have been supplanted by huge refrigerated ship with much bigger nets to feed a hungry world. Still, the old ways evoke romantic memories for many. This picture is from the brush of Ted Kautzky (1896-1956). Kautzky was born in Hungary and trained as an architect. He worked for New York City as an architect and taught watercolor painting at Pratt Institute. Ted Kautzky also authored and illustrated several wonderful books about drawing and painting, I am proud to have three of his books in my personal collection.
